IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme

Explained on this page is a guide to becoming a member of IEAGHG; including membership requirements, benefits, details of current members and who to contact for further information.

Membership of the IEA GHG Programme is open to all IEA member countries as well as other developed and developing countries that have an interest in implementing technical options for greenhouse gas mitigation. In addition, international companies who are interested in developing or deploying greenhouse gas mitigation options in their industrial sectors are welcome to join the Programme.

Who can join?

If you have an interest in greenhouse gas mitigation from fossil fuel use in industry or the power sector you are welcome to join us.

Any OECD or non OCED country can become Contracting Party members under the terms of the IEA Energy Technology Network (ETN) framework.  Contracting party member subscription rates are based on the respective countries annual CO2 emission rates.

The IEA ETN Framework however does unfortunately currently restrict us to country members and not state governments within that respective country.

Industrial companies that are developing technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their sectors are also welcome to join.  Such companies join as Industry Sponsors, and pay a flat annual fee.

The IEA ETN framework considers State owned enterprises or state funded research organisations to be Contracting Parties not Industry sponsors.

The contributions from both sets of members goes into a common research fund which IEAGHG administer on members’ behalf.

All members are asked to appoint a representative to attend the twice yearly Executive Committee meetings where decisions on how the common research fund is spent are made.  The Executive Committee meetings also set the strategic direction for the IEAGHG.
