8th International Workshop on Offshore Geologic CO₂ Storage

Overview

The 8th International Workshop on Offshore Geologic CO₂ storage was held in Bergen, Norway on April 20th-21st 2026, hosted by Equinor and co-organised by the University of Texas and the IEAGHG. There were around 100 in-person attendees, with over 250 participants joining online over the two days.

This workshop was established 10 years ago to promote knowledge sharing about offshore CO₂ storage. The first workshop was held in 2016 in Austin, Texas, followed by workshops in Beaumont, Texas (2017), Oslo, Norway (2018), Bergen, Norway (2020), New Orleans, Louisiana (2022), Aberdeen, UK (2023) and Porth Arthur, Texas (2025). Over the years, the workshop has grown to involve over 38 international CO₂ storage projects from countries like Norway, the Netherlands, and the United States.

Storage potential in offshore sedimentary basins is plentiful and has distinct benefits and limitations compared to utilising storage onshore. This year’s workshop was held in Bergen to allow participants to visit the operational Northern Lights facility.

The agenda brought together 43 presentations and dedicated discussion sessions, covering international project updates, basin-scale management, prospect development, injection, monitoring technologies, the evolution of monitoring programmes, and commercial, regulatory and social dimensions.
